We don’t have to wait for mainstream politicians to fix a system that rewards the super-rich.
The pressure from billionaires, corporations and vested interests is intense. Real change will come when ordinary people organise across old political divides and show that the 99% want a fairer, more democratic future.
1. Show that most people want big change
We will build a visible, people-powered movement for a fair tax system, restored public services, community ownership of essentials, and real democracy.
2. Bring communities together
We will help local communities get organised and create spaces where people can meet face to face, listen carefully, and find common ground beyond the social media bubbles that keep us divided.
3. Campaign for a Citizens’ Assembly on a fair tax system
We will push the government to fund a national Citizens’ Assembly on a fair tax system — or at least commit to seriously considering its recommendations. If necessary, we will help raise the funds ourselves. We aim to embed deliberative processes in all levels of our political system.
4. Support courageous political action
We will work with communities to support independents and other candidates willing to stand up to billionaire power. We will also reach out to sympathetic politicians with evidence from successful people-powered campaigns.
WHY A CITIZENS’ ASSEMBLY?
Citizens’ Assemblies have been used around the world to help ordinary people find fair solutions to difficult, values-based problems. Randomly selected citizens hear evidence, deliberate carefully, and make recommendations in the public interest — without the same pressure from donors, lobbyists and party machines.
This is exactly the kind of process we need for a bold set of tax reforms that rein in billionaire wealth. The question is simple:
How do we build a tax system that stops billionaires buying the future, and starts funding the society most people actually want?
